Listed as a "Town of Art and History", Sarlat's medieval streets are considered one of France's best examples of a 14th century medieval town. Salvaging this lot a bit outside of Sarlat - the colors of this historic French terra cotta tile still mirror the medieval colors inside the village. There's an earthiness to this clay tile - reminiscent of the famous gastronomy of the Dordogne region in which Sarlat is located. A color palette of champignon (mushrooms) in brown and white tones, chestnut and hints of moss - this is a rare white terra cotta tile that has aged beautifully over the centuries. It's surface texture has reached a patina that reminds one of stone and with such precise hand-molding - these long ago artisans achieved a consistent tile thickness that allows for an elegant grout line once installed. For those looking to historically preserve an interior to farmhouses of authentic character - this significant antique French terra cotta tile lot would do its justice.
