Since 2000, husband and wife team François and Emmi Micallef have quietly built Historic Decorative Materials into a leading source for authentic, reclaimed and artisanal European flooring and wall surfaces.
From their parent company, Pavé Tile, Wood & Stone, Inc., Showroom and their E-commerce division pavehdm.com, the pair has created a bridge between historic craftsmanship and contemporary architectural design — a living dialogue between past and present.
Guided by a lifelong respect for artisanship and materials with provenance, Historic Decorative Materials offers a carefully curated collection of antique and reclaimed French oak floors, aged limestone pavers, French reclaimed terra cotta tiles, Belgian bluestone, and hand-painted Delft tiles. Each piece is selected for its character, authenticity, and the quiet poetry of time worn by hand and history.
François, born in the South of France, travels across Europe to personally select reclaimed limestone tiles, French oak flooring, and French terra cotta tiles. His expertise and decades-long relationships with suppliers and craftsmen, ensure that each material is defined by authenticity, beauty and enduring quality. From centuries-old quarries and manors to restored farmhouses and châteaux, Francois' vision is an endless source of inspiration.
Emmi Micallef, a fine artist, brings the world of painting into architectural design through her line of hand-painted decorative tiles. From her inspired antiqued Delft tiles to her blue and white Cuisine de Monet tiles, her work captures historic interior design that offers clients the opportunity to live surrounded by meaningful beauty.
Together, François and Emmi blend art, history, and design into a curated vision of European elegance that endures beyond trends.

We believe that building materials carry memory — that a reclaimed French oak floor or a hand painted Delft tile tells its own story of history and grace.
Our mission is to connect architects, designers, and homeowners with these vetted materials so that every project reflects the warmth of craftsmanship and the integrity of design.
Located in Western Massachusetts, our Pavé Tile, Wood & Stone showroom welcomes clients by a private one-on-one design appointment. Here, visitors experience each collection in natural light — the movement of noble French oak grain, the patina of hand-finished of limestone, the expert installations of French reclaimed terra cotta tiles.
We work closely with design professionals and homeowners throughout the United States, Canada, Bermuda, and Europe, assisting in both historic renovations and new constructions that seek authenticity and enduring beauty.

Historic Decorative Materials stands apart in its commitment to source materials with documented history and artistic value. We salvage reclaimed French oak and limestone materials from centuries-old French farmhouses to European monasteries and châteaux. Our artisanally crafted French oak and limestone floors reflect cultural lineage and a craftsmanship that is of equal measure in beauty to our reclaimed flooring materials.
