Pérouges is a medieval walled town of 80 inhabitants, perched on a small hill that overlooks the Ain River in northeastern France. It was inhabited by craftsmen, linen weavers and farmers in the 12th century and probably founded by a Gallic colony returning from Perugia, Italy. This recently salvaged French reclaimed terra cotta tile lot was in a former apothecary dating over 150 years ago - although it looks and feels as if it stepped out of the 12th century!  The patina of the clay cobblestones is extraordinary where it is clear this terra cotta tile floor was well used.  A soft, worn matte surface allows for the softest clay hues to take center stage.  This is a dazzling array of soft pastel colors of rose, blush, celadon, gold, stone gray and cream - an interior designer's dream palette for soaring creativity. A perfect cobblestone size of 6 1/4" x 6 1/4" calls for an off-set joint installation which elevates this French reclaimed clay tile's historic authenticity.
