Rochefort-en-Terre is a medieval town designated as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. Located in Brittany, in north-western France, it sits on a rocky spur amidst moors and woods. What's incredibly unique is that the town grows geraniums and ivy to beautify the historic stone buildings and medieval architecture. The reclaimed terra cotta tile lot we salvaged here came from an old farmhouse outside of Rochefort-en-Terre - but none the less - the colors and patina of this lot reflect the beauty and age of the village. The colors of this lot feel medieval - various copper, burnt earth, terra cotta, olive gray and ochre hues intermingle with pops of soft pink geranium. The texture has an incredible mix of smooth patina from 150-year old+ footprint wear, flashings of intense heat from the traditional wood-fired kilns and terrazzo like textures where darker specks of clay form abstract patterns onto ochre and earth-colored clay surfaces. It's a marvel to look at, let alone live with it in one's home...
