Château de Fénelon Antiqued French Limestone Flooring is a success story for those looking for a French limestone floor that has historic presence, cool and warm hues and a patina that feels authentically antique. Our inspiration was the stones that make up the Château de Fénelon, a castle on a rocky promontory in south-western France on the Dordogne river.  This is a castle dating back to the 13th century - but the limestone and their quarries that were used in building this castle still exist today - and these are the French limestones we focused on to achieve a resemblance of the colors and textures of this medieval castle.  The stand-out of this French limestone is first, it's size.   An authentic mix of using two different sizes  - we present 1/3 in 20" wide and 2/3 in 24" wide by random length, some pieces up to 34" long.  The handsome presence of these two mixed sizes are extraordinary.  Second, it's the surface texture of the Château de Fénelon that sends the imagination back in time, when the scuttle of boots, clogs and horse hooves forever carved their presence in this stone's patina.  Finally, the color.  Looking to work specifically with this French quarry in the south-west Dordogne region meant we would have a beautiful mix of cool and warm hues of gray, cream, white and leather.  However, these are subtle transitions of color - where their light/dark values are close in scale arriving at color vibration vs. extreme value contrasts.  For those interior designers out there - we know having a floor that reads overall one local color but can be swayed warm or cool - is a designer's dream palette.  We paired our Château de Fénelon Antiqued French Limestone Floor with one of our most notable and historic French oak floors - The Kings of France 18th Century French Oak Floors - The Olde Oak Collection in Dorset.  From its hand-finished patina to gray and oak color hues - this match couldn't be more authentic.
