Aÿ-Champagne is located in the Vallee de la Marne which is a subregion of Champagne, France. Located in northeastern France, this charming village resides within the Champagne region, on a hillside, and is known as the birthplace of champagne. What stood out for us when salvaging this lot was the similarity of colors shared between this French reclaimed terra cotta tile hexagon and some of the lovely stucco buildings in Aÿ. Have you ever drank Champagne with a few plump, bright raspberries at the bottom of the glass - turning the Champagne an effervescent blush color? This is how I would describe the color of this clay tile. An overall blush color with the mineral colors of stone and chalk. Those blush and mineral colors do very well when paired with our French oak floor, Dorset within the Olde Oak Collection. The juxtaposing colors of warm oak and gray tones with the blush, stone and chalk colors create a color vibration that enlivens an interior. The surface texture of this French reclaimed tile is a weathered patina, worn through the centuries that today, radiate history and authenticity. Finally, the most magnificent part of this reclaimed tera cotta tile lot is that the substantial quantity of 436 SF have a consistent thickness of 1". This means the most beautiful of installations where tight grout lines will make this floor supremely elegant.
