Welcome to Historic Decorative Materials, a division of Pavé Tile, Wood & Stone, Inc. As co-owner with my husband, François, this is a short blog about who we are and how we began.
Opening Pavé in 2000 with François, we established ourselves as artists and purveyors of French reclaimed terra cotta tiles as well as our own terra cotta artisan tiles. Using hand made terra cotta tiles from Italy, we aged, glazed and kiln-fired them into old pavers with historic designs. As time went on, François, born and raised in the South of France, brought to Pavé relationships in France that allowed us to broaden our scope of materials to include antique and aged French limestone flooring, including Dalle de Bourgogne and Bar de Montpellier. Today, we continue to be artisans for we expanded our vision of hand crafted terra cotta tiles to include proprietary historic decorative wall tiles. We also extended our relationships to Belgium and now are a unique source for antique and aged Belgian blue stone flooring and European reclaimed engineered oak floors. A new addition to our floor line also comes from France which is a rendition of historic 18th century wide-plank oak floors and, to an architect and builders delight, French reclaimed oak floors perfect for wall cladding as well.
As a brick and mortar and internet business, our business model must change with the times. Our venture into Historic Decorative Materials, an e-commerce division of Pavé Tile, Wood & Stone, Inc. was the next step to bring these antique and artisan French and Belgium building materials to market in a 21st century endeavor. Pricing to the homeowner and to the trade in a click-and-buy format makes for a convenient point of sale.
As the months progress, we will be adding video blogs informing clients of these materials - in which some of these surfaces are so difficult to understand from samples alone, as well as various video design boards to help envision different materials together.
We are building out our showroom to be a pavé of the most beautiful antique and aged French and Belgium building materials, including soon-to-come video installations of our Antique French Limestone Dalle de Bourgogne and Bar de Montpellier flooring and our antique Belgian Blue Stone and aged and antique French Oak Floors and wall cladding. Our showroom location, open by-appointment, is unique. It is a destination, (an hour from Tanglewood and the Berkshires) to explore one of the most beautiful areas of the Northeast, the Pioneer Valley, and to receive exceptional service and undivided attention when choosing French and Belgian building materials for your fine home. Directly sourced and maintaining a good value, big city locations with their theatrical showrooms cannot match the attention to quality, knowledge of the products, and price point that Pavé and Historic Decorative Materials can with these extraordinary French and Belgian stone and oak surfaces.
Please visit our contact page to view our location and make your appointment.
We look forward to working with you and thank you for your time,
Emmi Micallef, co-owner Historic Decorative Materials, a division of Pavé Tile, Wood & Stone, Inc.

In the world of interior design, few materials embody timeless elegance like French reclaimed terracotta tile. These tiles, with their vintage charm and rustic appeal, have been a preferred choice for centuries. François, growing up in Provence, lived amongst these floors, and we've been salvaging the highest quality reclaimed French terra cotta tiles for 25 years now.
