Bastide is a term for a large, elegant manor house in Provence that is located in the countryside, often built  around a courtyard.  Originally occupied by wealthy farmers, the  word "bastide" comes from the Provençal word batista, or bastir, meaning "to build".  The rustic elegance of the bastide was our inspiration in creating this réédition 18th century French limestone flooring.  Using a French limestone that mirrors the stone colored walls of many Bastide manor homes in Provence - our success is quite clear.  The smooth rustic patina of its surface texture speaks of old country elegance - where the edge detail is aged perfection. Adding to this success is the color way.  This is a warm gray French limestone floor that has undertones of cream and oak.  The trinity of perfection - these are hues that allow for an easy marriage of French limestone fireplaces and antique French oak flooring.  Finally, the overall read of this antiqued 18th century French limestone floor is uniformity.  The shifts of warm grays to oak to cream are subtle - making the floor feel like dappled sunlight shifting on the floor - not an array of extreme color hues.
