The historic, antique black and white Nero and Bianco Carrara marble stone floor always catches my eye. Found throughout Europe from Kings estates to fine manor homes, this stone floor is an ode to the Romans who cherished the symmetry and geometry of the checkered marble black and white floor. It provides an anchor and incredible ambiance to a room, as well as a remarkable artistic contrast to other materials within the interior.
For example, an antique black and white Bianco Carrara and Nero marble stone floor will carry an entryway and allow the eye to rest upon geometric perfection before entering into the main residence. There is then, a beautiful tension of contrast created when juxtaposed next to warmer tones, such as French oak wood floors or antique French limestone flooring. In a kitchen, a reclaimed Italian Bianco Carrara and Nero checkered marble floor is the epitome of elegance. It marries with metals, for example with a stove from la Cornue or La Canche, and works well with a variety of colors such as warm cream tones, French blues, deep greens, gray and golden hues. These floors create a statement.
Historically, hand painted Delft tiles lined walls of palaces, most often graced underneath with a black and white Italian Bianco Carrara and Nero marble checkered stone floor. The smaller decorative Delft tiles in blue were anchored by the larger black and white checkered stone tiles. It's an incredibly historic aesthetic that is relevant and respected today within interior design.
All these authentic interiors can be recreated in one's home by using Historic Decorative Materials' antique Italian black and white Bianco Carrara and Nero checkered marble stone floor with our Kings of France 18th Century French Oak flooring, our array of antique or aged French limestone floors or our 17th Century Antiqued Delft Tiles. The material matters and when an authentically antique Italian black and white marble floor is installed, one instantly feels transcended in the space.
