We are a niche business. We bring vaste knowledge and resources to our clients. Viewing materials installed in our European showroom or a video appointment are the most authentic avenues in understanding what makes quality, artisanal French oak and limestone flooring. It is an art. It is not mass production. Since 2000, we have worked with trusted suppliers who continually hone their craft. We work in France, Belgium, England and Italy.
At Historic Decorative Materials, we do not ship cut-down samples of our reclaimed French oak flooring, antique French limestone, Belgian bluestone and reclaimed terra cotta tiles. These iconic, historically inspired materials cannot be accurately evaluated in a small sample piece—nor should they be compared alongside mass-produced surfaces or even other competitors’ materials that are reduced to UPS-shippable fragments.
Because the true value of our collections lies in their full color range, patina variation, hand-finished textures, and architectural scale, a small sample will never reveal what the material becomes once installed across a large project. For this reason, we offer private showroom appointments and detailed video consultations, allowing clients and designers to view our materials as they should be seen: fully installed, in natural light, and in context with other historic surfaces. This ensures confident, accurate material selection based on the real beauty, provenance, and performance of our premium European wood, stone, and tile collections.
