Cordes-sur-Ciel, located in southwest France in the historic Occitanie region, was founded in 1222 by Count Raymond VII of Toulouse and remains one of the most beautifully preserved medieval bastide towns. Its steep cobbled lanes and Gothic stone houses reflect centuries of Occitan craftsmanship, where homes and workshops were often paved with hand-formed terra cotta tiles that softened and deepened in tone over time. The same aged patina found in this 150-year-old salvaged lot of French terra cotta tiles carries the spirit of villages like Cordes-sur-Ciel—materials shaped by generations of use, weather, and daily life. In today’s homes, these reclaimed tiles bring that historic character into kitchens, mudrooms, entryways, pantries, wine cellars, sunrooms, and garden rooms, adding authentic warmth and Old-World architectural integrity.  Color variations not only include classic clay & earthenware, but nearly a white gray hue with red undertones and warm red-browns.  The patina surface texture and aged edges show magnificent wear - authentically historic. For a design mood board, we paired this antique terra cotta tile with our antiqued French oak flooing - Danish Whitewash from the Great House Collection.  This color way brings out those gray/white tones while the earthenware clay tiles add warmth.
