Antique French Terra Cotta Hexagon Tiles from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

Set along the banks of the Sorgue River in southeastern France, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is renowned for its historic Sunday open-air market—established in November 1596—and its longstanding reputation as one of Provence’s premier destinations for antiques. It was just beyond this storied town that we discovered this exceptional lot of reclaimed French terra cotta hexagon tiles.

Salvaged from a historic manor home, this collection is among the oldest we have ever sourced, likely dating to the early 18th century. The palette is distinctly Provençal—natural clay reds, soft blush tones, warm ochres, and subtle olive undertones—each tile carrying the nuanced variation only centuries-old kiln firing and time can produce.

The patina is extraordinary. Generations of wear have created a smooth, gently burnished surface with authentic timeworn character. Remarkably consistent in thickness, these antique terra cotta tiles allow for refined, tight grout lines, offering both historic integrity and architectural precision.

Suitable for installation across substantial spaces, this reclaimed French terra cotta hexagon floor lends itself beautifully to kitchens, entry halls, garden rooms, or full living areas. Paired with plaster walls and reclaimed wood beams, it creates an authentic atmosphere of provençal living.
