English Rose Decorative Ceramic Wall Tile Inspired by 14th-Century Gothic Encaustic Designs

Hand-painted English Gothic ceramic wall tile inspired by 14th-century encaustic tile traditions, the English Rose is an original decorative design within the Carriage House Collection by Historic Decorative Materials. Drawing upon the floral ornament and geometric symmetry of medieval English decorative arts, the rose motif recalls the botanical designs found in historic English tilework, Gothic churches, and manor house interiors.

Originally interpreted and painted by Emmi Micallef, co-founder of Historic Decorative Materials, the English Rose features a delicately balanced floral motif in Medieval Grey, a muted warm grey, against a Vintage Warm White ceramic field. Each tile is individually hand-painted and kiln-fired, with a softly crackled glaze that lends the surface the aged character of historic English ceramics.

Designed to coordinate with the Carriage House Collection's heraldic motifs, decorative borders, and moldings, these English Gothic wall tiles can be arranged as repeating floral patterns or incorporated into fireplace surrounds, kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, and architectural tile panels. The understated grey and warm white palette complements antiqued French oak flooring, reclaimed French limestone, Belgian bluestone, and interiors inspired by traditional English architecture.
