Medieval English Oak Leaf Decorative Ceramic Border Tile Inspired by 14th-Century Gothic Encaustic Designs

Hand-painted English Gothic ceramic border tile inspired by 14th-century encaustic tile traditions, the Oak Leaf Border is an original botanical design within the Carriage House Collection by Historic Decorative Materials. Drawing upon the oak leaf ornament found in medieval English decorative arts, this design brings the natural forms of English woodland into the structured geometry of Gothic architectural decoration.

Originally interpreted and painted by Emmi Micallef, co-founder of Historic Decorative Materials, the Oak Leaf Border features a traditional botanical motif in Medieval Grey, a muted warm grey, against a Vintage Warm White ceramic field. Each tile is individually hand-painted and kiln-fired, with a delicately crackled glaze reminiscent of aged English decorative ceramics.

Designed to coordinate with the Carriage House Collection's Oak Leaf Compass and other Gothic motifs, these hand-painted ceramic border tiles provide an elegant framework for decorative tile installations. Particularly suited to fireplace surrounds, kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, and framed architectural panels, the Oak Leaf Border introduces a continuous ornamental detail. Its warm grey and antiqued white palette complements reclaimed French oak flooring, antiqued limestone, Belgian bluestone, and traditional English country house interiors.
