Our hand-painted Delft Children at Play tiles are inspired by historic 17th-century Dutch Delftware and European museum collections. This set of six blue and white Delft tiles features traditional scenes of childhood and everyday life — Star, Jump Rope, Kite, Hockey, Swings and My Friend Goat — interpreted in the distinctive character of antique Dutch ceramic tile.

Created by artist Emmi Micallef, co-founder of Historic Decorative Materials and Pavé Tile, Wood & Stone, each Dutch Delft tile is individually hand-decorated and kiln-fired in a traditional Delft blue glaze on a handmade ceramic tile. Subtle variations in brushwork, glaze and surface are inherent to the artisan process and give each tile its individual character.

Designed for kitchen backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, bathroom walls and architectural wall installations, these decorative Delft tiles bring the historic blue-and-white tradition of the Netherlands into both period and contemporary interiors. The Children at Play tiles may be installed as a complete figurative grouping, incorporated among field tiles, or used individually as decorative accents.

Our Delft collection is available with two antiqued white field tile colors developed to complement historic and natural European materials.

Historic White is a warm, balanced white — softer than a cool, blue-based white while remaining crisp and clearly white. It provides a refined background for Delft blue without appearing stark.

Vintage Warm White is our warmest field tile color and the color shown in these product images. Its softly aged appearance was developed to harmonize with French limestone, Belgian bluestone, antique cement tile, French oak flooring and reclaimed French terra cotta, complementing the tonal variation and patina of these materials.
