Antiqued French Oak Flooring in Castle Combe, named for the historic and picturesque village within the Cotswolds, is a wide plank, rustic French oak floor defined by pale warm limestone and creamy putty tones, layered with soft sand, natural flax and chalky highlights that settle into the deeply textured grain. Inspired by the quiet, timeworn palette of the English Cotswolds, its color recalls old limestone houses, limewashed interiors and oak mellowed by generations of use. Its pale, sun-warmed palette brings a luminosity to a room while preserving the depth, variation and character of beautifully aged oak.
Crafted from 100-year-old fallen French oak sourced from certified managed forests, each plank carries the natural character of slow-grown timber—knots, veins, surface checking and expressive grain—preserved and elevated through our proprietary 7–10 step oxidation process. Rather than covering the wood with conventional stains, the process works with the natural tannins of the oak to develop nuanced color, depth and a soft matte patina.
but it is not a stark white or bleached-looking oak. Subtle shifts of warm limestone, creamy putty, pale sand and natural flax move from plank to plank, while soft chalky highlights settle into the deeply textured grain. The underlying warmth of the oak remains visible beneath the pale finish, giving the floor a softly aged, mineral quality rather than a cool or washed-out appearance. The result is an antiqued French oak floor that feels quiet, architectural and naturally aged rather than newly manufactured.
These Antiqued French Oak Floors are not newly manufactured wood made to imitate age, nor reclaimed planks removed from dilapidated structures. They are created from naturally aged oak that has matured over a century before being transformed by hand into finished flooring. Each plank reflects inherent variations in tone, grain pattern, knots and open cracks—defining characteristics of true extra rustic French oak flooring. The wide plank format amplifies this movement and scale, often incorporating expressive knots and larger cracks that may remain open or be reinforced with hand-forged iron plates.
Available in solid and engineered French oak flooring, as well as custom stair treads and Parquet de Versailles patterns, Castle Combe is produced at a substantial 2.2 cm thickness for architectural scale and long-term durability. Its pale mineral palette pairs especially well with French limestone, reclaimed terra cotta, lime plaster, aged stone and other natural materials used in timeless European interiors.
