Hand-Painted 19th-Century French Decorative Tile – Rouen-Inspired Floral Motif with Hand-Crazed Glaze

Antiqued French blue and white ceramic wall tiles inspired by 19th-century Rouen decorative pottery bring the delicate beauty of traditional French floral ornamentation into architectural interiors. Monet Petals, from the Cuisine de Monet Collection, draws inspiration from the historic blue and white tiles associated with Claude Monet's celebrated kitchen at his home in Giverny, France.

The Petals motif interprets the graceful botanical patterns and ornamental traditions of French Provincial decorative ceramics. Originally hand-painted by Emmi Micallef, co-founder of Historic Decorative Materials and Pavé Tile, Wood & Stone, Inc., this design captures the artistic charm of French faience while introducing a refined floral composition suited to both traditional and newly built interiors.

Each handmade ceramic tile is kiln-fired at the Pavé facility in a rich French Blue decorative glaze against a choice of Historic Cool White or Vintage Warm White. The surface is carefully hand-crazed to create a subtle antiqued crackle, recalling the aged glaze and time-softened character of historic French ceramic wall tiles.

Ideal for elegant European kitchen backsplashes, blue and white bathroom wall tiles, decorative fireplace surrounds, and traditional European wall installations, Monet Petals can be arranged in repeating decorative patterns or used as an individual floral accent. Its classic blue and white palette complements antiqued French limestone, reclaimed French oak, Belgian bluestone, and antique French terra cotta flooring, creating a harmonious relationship between decorative ceramics and natural architectural materials.

Field Tile Color Options

Historic Cool White: A crisp, cooler white that creates a clean, luminous contrast with the French Blue decorative glaze. Its clarity accentuates the floral detailing and traditional blue and white character of the tile.

Vintage Warm White: Our warmest white, with a softened, aged appearance that complements reclaimed European architectural materials. Particularly harmonious with antiqued French limestone flooring, Belgian bluestone, antique cement tiles, French oak floors, and reclaimed French terra cotta tiles, Vintage Warm White enhances the natural patina and muted color palette of historic interiors.
