Drawing inspiration from the formal gardens, ornamental symmetry, and decorative arts of 16th-century Italy, Giardino is a set of four hand-painted Italian Renaissance ceramic wall tiles designed to create a unified architectural pattern. Original artwork by Emmi Micallef, co-founder of Historic Decorative Materials, brings the graceful geometry and botanical influences of Renaissance ornamentation into a distinctive blue and white decorative tile composition.
Each ceramic tile is kiln-fired at the Pavé facility, where the rich Florentine Midnight Blue glaze develops against a softly crackled white surface. The four individual motifs come together to form a harmonious decorative arrangement, recalling the intricate ceramic ornamentation and artistic sophistication of historic Italian palazzi, Renaissance villas, and classical European interiors.
Ideal for Italian tile kitchen backsplashes, decorative bathroom walls, fireplace surrounds, and architectural feature walls, the Giardino four-tile set may be incorporated into larger repeating installations or used as an individual ornamental composition. Its balanced pattern and deep blue palette complement natural stone, aged wood, and traditional architectural finishes, bringing historic European character to both period properties and newly built homes.
Historic White: A luminous warm white that retains the crisp appearance of a true white without the cool undertones of a blue-white glaze. Its clean, refined character provides a more pronounced contrast against the Florentine Midnight Blue decoration.
Vintage Warm White: Our warmest white, with a softened, aged appearance that harmonizes beautifully with reclaimed European architectural materials. Particularly suited to interiors featuring antiqued French limestone flooring, Belgian bluestone, antique cement tiles, French oak floors, and reclaimed French terra cotta flooring, this warmer field color complements the natural patina and tonal variation of historic materials.
