Medieval English Geometric Decorative Wall Tile Inspired by 14th-Century Gothic Encaustic Designs

Hand-painted English Gothic ceramic wall tile inspired by 14th-century encaustic tile traditions, Points of Light is an original geometric design within the Carriage House Collection by Historic Decorative Materials. Its radiating pattern draws upon the symmetry and ornamental geometry of medieval English decorative arts, recalling the intricate tilework of Gothic churches, castles, and historic manor houses.

Originally interpreted and painted by Emmi Micallef, co-founder of Historic Decorative Materials, the Points of Light motif is rendered in Medieval Grey, a muted warm grey, against a Vintage Warm White ceramic field. Each tile is individually hand-painted and kiln-fired, with a delicately crackled glaze that evokes the softened surface character of historic English ceramics.

The repeating geometry of Points of Light creates a rhythmic decorative pattern, particularly suited to fireplace surrounds, kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, and framed architectural tile panels. Designed to coordinate with the Carriage House Collection's heraldic motifs, borders, and moldings, these English Gothic ceramic wall tiles complement antiqued French oak flooring, reclaimed limestone, Belgian bluestone, and both traditional and contemporary European interiors.
