Inspired by historic 17th-century Dutch Delft tiles and European museum pieces, Emmi Micallef's original Delft oxtail corner tile recreates one of the most recognizable decorative corner motifs found in traditional blue and white Dutch tilework. The oxtail corner design frames the central tile motif while allowing individual Delft tiles to visually connect across a larger installation.
Created by artist Emmi Micallef, co-founder of Historic Decorative Materials and Pavé Tile, Wood & Stone, each Dutch Delft oxtail corner tile is individually hand-decorated and kiln-fired in a traditional blue-grey Delft glaze on a handmade ceramic tile. Subtle variations in brushwork, glaze, surface and crackle are inherent to the artisan process and give each tile its individual character.
Designed to accompany our hand-painted Delft Flower, Children at Play, Ship, Village Life and Sea Creature tiles, the oxtail corner motif can be used throughout Delft tile kitchen backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, bathroom walls and architectural wall installations. Its historic corner decoration creates rhythm and continuity while reinforcing the distinctive character of traditional Dutch blue and white tilework.
Our Delft collection is available with two antiqued white field tile colors developed to complement historic and natural European materials.
Historic White is a warm, balanced white — softer than a cool, blue-based white while remaining crisp and clearly white. It provides a refined background for Delft blue without appearing stark.
Vintage Warm White is our warmest field tile color and the color shown in these product images. Its softly aged appearance was developed to harmonize with French limestone, Belgian bluestone, antique cement tile, French oak flooring and reclaimed French terra cotta, complementing the tonal variation and patina of these materials.

Recommended Sealer: Apply Akemi Stone Impregnation following the manufacturer's instructions after installation and grouting of tile.
