The Farmhouse Provençal Réédition Rustique Hexagon is the color of golden wheat fields that immerse your senses, as you picnic in chirping fields of Provence.  I have always loved the smell of wheat fields, a distinct summer scent - but it's their golden wheat color just before harvest that mesmerizes me.  As a reclaimed French terra cotta tile hexagon, these prized ochre wheat colors are just rare finds.  We celebrate the lots when we find them, and if you have been on our site, you will know the lots sell out fast.

However, understanding the love so many have for the soft patina and warm ochre wheat colors of these terra cotta tile floors, we decided to create a reclaimed réédition rustique yellow wheat terra cotta tile hexagon.  This réédition is unique and has taken us years to develop, because it is hard to produce a yellow clay tile base upon which these historic colors can be more easily ascertained.  Following the centuries old artisanal process of fabricating hand made terra cotta tiles, each tile is subject to first, sifting and kneading the clay to ensure the tile's purity.  Then, skilled artisans slap the clay into hand-made precise wooden molds.  This is a physically strenuous process for it's done on the ground, so kneeling for hours at a time is the norm.  The terra cotta tile is now called greenware and it's set to dry in their molds for 24-48 hours depending on weather conditions.  The tiles are then unmolded and set to air-dry again within a similar timeframe.  Finally, they are stacked in beehive wood burning kilns and fired at extremely high temperatures for a period of 3-4 days.  The fire must remain consistently hot and the kilns and their fires must be stoked within this period.  Artisans take their turns in shifts - morning into night into morning again.  The tiles that emerge are incredibly hard and durable.  They have beautiful color variations due to varying temperatures of the wood fire in the kilns.  The tiles placed at the bottom of the kilns will be fired hotter and are lighter in color than the tiles placed at the top of the kilns.  This variation of color allows for the interplay of light and dark hues within one floor, making each floor unique.

The texture of these réédition rustique French terra cotta tile hexagons is a smooth textured patina, like true reclaimed, that has old world authenticity.  Their edge details are historic due to their hand molding and because of each tile's precise size and thickness, one can achieve that classic tight grout line found in beautiful French reclaimed terra cotta tile floors.  Finally, it's the prized golden wheat colors that really make this French hexagon terra cotta tile so loved.

The warmth and feel of these floors work beautifully with so many color palettes, from neutrals and whites to blue, gray or black.  With blue, they are a classic French floor to compliment the tiles found in Monet's kitchen in Giverney, France that I hand painted in our Cuisine de Monet Decorative Wall Tile Collection.  They marry with French oak floors like our Kings of France 18th Century French Oak Floors in Cepes where the textures of wood and terra cotta create the contrasting tension of surfaces, yet their historic patina keeps them synchronized.  And finally, where oak + blue exist - there will always be beauty.  One can achieve this by paring the Provençal ocher wheat colors of this hexagon terra cotta tile with a gorgeous Belgian bluestone floor.  My imagination goes wild thinking of the lovely, historic interiors one is able to create with these incredible réédition yellow wheat terra cotta tile hexgaon floors from Provence.
