Located in northern France along la Seine, Rouen was one of the most prosperous cities in the Middle Ages due to the textile and tile factories and river trade. In fact, Claude Monet purchased those famous blue and white kitchen tiles for his home in Giverny, France from a tile manufacturer in 19th century Rouen. The lot we present today of a 150-year old French reclaimed terra cotta tile hexagon from a village just outside of Rouen is rich in history, saturated color and patina. Classic terra cotta reds - hues of light and dark - pleases the eye and is the classic floor when paired with a blue and white tile inspired from Monet's kitchen, like from our Cuisine de Monet Wall Tile Collection. The epitome of a French country kitchen that remains timeless.
