Le Port de La Lune is a famous harbor located on the Garonne River in Bordeaux, France.  The name means essentially, "the crescent moon"  - a name dating back to the Middle Ages because of the shape it creates crossing the Garonne River within the city.  It's within this fertile landscape known for its famous Bordeaux wine, that we salvaged this historic French reclaimed terra cotta tile hexagon.  What's unique about this lot is it's rich Bordeaux colors - as if the winemakers imbued the terra cotta clay with the rich reds and aubergine colors of the wine itself.  An exceptionally historic lot for the clay tiles date from the earlier 1800's, one feels the presence and authenticity of this tile.  The surface texture has a worn patina and many tiles have the famous decorative black "flashing"  that occurs naturally during firing when the clay comes into contact with the flame of the wood-fired kilns.  I love this tile for it's history and knowing this region well, what a wonderful piece of history to add into one's home.
