This was an unbelievable find for us.  We have salvaged hand made terra cotta bricks from over a century old wood-fired French bread oven. These hand made terra cotta bricks were used as the refractory element to withstand the shock of the direct flame and be a good heat sink - meaning it retained the heat and as it slowly cooled, baked the bread.  This bread baking method is also called "a falling oven".  The colors of this French reclaimed terra cotta brick are beautiful soft reds on the larger face and an incredible mix of reds, blacks, cream and gray on it's thin side.  The surface texture of the bricks are a lovely, smooth patina from the century of use and intensity of flame - and one can see the black burnt marks - which yields historic authenticity.  Perfect for a focal point wall, entry, firebox, wine cellar.

Recommended Sealer after Installation:  Akemi Stone Impregnation for French Reclaimed Terra Cotta Tile Flooring

Cleaning and Maintenance:  This lot will need surface cleaning after installation. Vacuum, then clean with Black Soap (Savon Noir) to disinfect, maintain, protect and enhance patina.
