NEW! Haute Belge Fine European Hardwood Oak Flooring Collection

Haute Belge Specializes in Classic Belgian Oak Colors. You are looking for an authentic, oak floor?  Our question to you is........ "Which One?"

François and I have been building and curating our tile, wood & stone collections for 19 years now. Many of those years were spent (and are still spent) creating our own collections - designs on tile and even a wood collection called Provence Ancienne. The image below is a color we did from that collection - it was what we loved in a hand-crafted wood floor - along with 18 steps to create it!  It was all-consuming and for our company with so many interests - we decided to continue broadening our focus instead of committing to creating these wood floors.

Our wood floors

Developing our own wood flooring collection was a 5-year journey and well worth it for the knowledge we acquired. Due to this journey and in general our taste in materials, we have become extremely choosy about pre-finished wood flooring.  To say there is an onslaught of pre-finished flooring on the market would be an understatement. On-line, in showrooms - I feel the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in America and abroad all concocting and crafting pre-finished wood floors.

The pre-finished wood flooring industry is divided into two categories...according to me - mass production and hand-crafted.  The mass produced floors - I spot them a mile away and quickly turn my eye.  They read false in color and texture, grain and beauty, are of narrow width and short length and I dislike them immensely.  The hand-crafted pre-finished floors are far harder to find - for it is a technical and artisan craft that can take generations to develop and become good at.  Not only that - but the manufacturer needs to have the ability to produce in a timely manner these works of art, and to be in good standing with the PEFC and the FSC with proven certification.

All our boxes have been checked for our Kings of France 18th Century French Oak Flooring Collection.  The beauty of the planks are mind-boggling - one plank's presence alone feels like I'm in front of the Mona Lisa.  The Kings of France works with the oxidation method (among other secrets) that works within the tannin of the wood - actually changing - aging it's composition.  François and I are beholden to this wood flooring collection for their feel of an 18th century French reclaimed floor, their nuanced colors and incredible patinas.

But this blog is not about our fabulous Kings of France Collection.  It's actually about our new Haute Belge Fine European Hardwood Oak Flooring Collection.  I am very excited to present an additional wood flooring collection that reigns supreme in my mind - equal but different to the Kings of France French Oak Flooring Collection.

It's equal because the quality, the technical knowledge and the artisan hand craftsmanship are bar none.  Haute Belge is a wood flooring that appeals to those who want character and authenticity, history and elegance.  These boxes are checked for interiors that want to scale back on the reclaimed essence of a wood floor - and simply want a beautiful wood floor that appears natural, historic but still has great presence.

The strengths of the Haute Belge are many.  The Haute Belge Collection is top quality French and European Oak hardwood floors that have character, translucency, history and refinement.  These solid, engineered or 3-layer European white oak planks are of premium quality and sustainability.  A love of Belgium craftsmanship goes into the production of each plank and finished for a large part, by-hand.  From hand-scraped beveled edges to planing, smoking, distressing, aging, flaming or brushing - the variety of specialized techniques insures a floor of unparalleled authenticity within the parameters of haute elegance.  For residential and commercial use, each floor is custom made per order.  Available in 5/8" or 3/4" thick, widths up to 15" wide and lengths up to 16' long, tongue and groove on 4 sides, matching stair parts and other profiles, as well as herringbone, chevron and parquet panels - the possibilities to create aesthetics from minimalist and modern to old world are endless.

A bespoke wood flooring - Haute Belge also excels in the colors of Belgian oaks and all their nuances.  It's like going to Godiva where they excel at chocolate - and all their nuances and flavors of chocolate.  For those who seek a natural oak color - I would not say, "Ah yes, I understand" - I would say, "Which one?"

The Belgian interiors that take our breathe away - the images we swoon over and search endlessly Pinterest for that perfect oak color floor - white oak, amber oak, not too amber oak, brown oak, burnt sugar oak, walnut oaky color etc...have been found.  Phew.  My life can go on now.   These nuanced oak colors will inspire that cool modern Belgian décor to a rustic Belgian farmhouse to the eclectic mix of contemporary + old world softness that the beloved designer Axel Vervoordt created and excels at.

Here are some images of designer Axel Vervoordt's work from his books Timeless Interiors and Living with Light.  Notice the nuanced oak colored floors.

When I see images like these and the beauty, I think back to our curated wood flooring collections. I know this new collection for us, Haute Belge - in all their nuanced oak colors, hand-crafted and bespoke will fulfill many clients Pinterest dreams.

The Haute Belge Collection is also unique because it's one of the only wood flooring manufacturers that produce entirely in-house, from raw timber to finished product.  From their woodworking origins, Haute Belge has invested heavily in specialized skills and machinery, which makes their wood planing unparalleled.  Haute Belge comes in both engineered and solid, for residential and commercial use as well as classic floorboards and over a dozen intricate panels.

Although every floor is finished by hand - floors that are installed in homes to restaurants and hotels receive a protective top layer that make these installations extremely durable.  And like the Kings of France - Haute Belge uses only wood from forests managed according to sustainable principles and with FSC and PEFC certification.

The Perfection of Minimalist + Classical Design + Master Crafted Hand-Painted Italian Wood Doors

by Emmi Micallef March 03, 2019

We all agree we aspire to a home that is a sanctuary of peace and beauty. Often times we feel zen in a minimalist space.  This design philosophy uses light and space with minimal details and a limited color palette.  However, these interiors may leave one also feeling cold.  Combining minimalism with classical interiors is what I personally love.  I feel best in an uncluttered space that is airy and light, yet I yearn for also simple beauty, texture, color and history.  Following this e...

Why is One of the Best Showrooms in the Nation for French and Belgian Stone and Wood Flooring in Western Massachusetts?

The definition of the word DESTINATION according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary is, "a place worthy of travel".  In these e-commerce times with click-and-buy nearly everything from the comforts of your living room, there are still those items that one has to see and touch for oneself.  The world has become smaller - but adventures cannot be forgotten and traveling to a destination that showcases materials only truly found in France and Belgium, no longer seems that far away....
